Mirapoint Unveils E-mail Archiving Appliance
Messaging security vendor today brought out a policy-based e-mail archiving appliance that indexes and organizes messages to help companies comply with legal and regulatory requirements for records retention.
The Mirapoint ComplianceVault can be attached to any e-mail server, and administrators can set policies for archiving based on sender, recipient, spam or virus score, department or keyword content for any message, according to Mirapoint. The appliance can also archive instant messages, the company said.
"The big drivers for our customers are regulatory compliance, e-discovery, intelligent data storage, retrieval of intellectual property and internal investigations," said Craig Carpenter, Mirapoint director of corporate marketing.
ComplianceVault can be configured to archive inbound, outbound and internal messages, eliminate spam and duplicated messages and categorize messages for easier search and retrieval. It can also manage policies across different users, roles and departments and aggregate messages into separate archives.
The appliance logs in passively in the background, behaving like any other client, then processes the messages in a separate, dedicated system, reducing impact on the e-mail network. After the messages are secure in the archive, they can be erased from the e-mail server or retained depending upon the administrator’s policy settings.
ComplianceVault integrates into Mirapoint's overall messaging infrastructure comprised of its Message Server appliance and RazorGate e-mail security appliance.
The appliance will initially be offered in a 1-terabyte model, priced at $14,995, according to Carpenter, adding that it is targeted for departmental or mid-level enterprise archiving. Subsequent models will feature up to 8 terabytes of storage for larger enterprises, he said.
