IronPort Adds Web Reputation Technology To It's Anti-Spam System
E-mail security vendor has enhanced its anti-spam system with its new IronPort Web Reputation technology that measures the behavior and traffic patterns of a web site to assess its trustworthiness.
IronPort Web Reputation technology provides more accurate analysis of messages and blended threats (malware that uses e-mail, the Web and IM), enabling the IronPort anti-spam system to waylay spam that bypasses traditional content-based filters, according to IronPort.
The effectiveness of traditional filters that look primarily at the content of the e-mail have declined in the face of new tactics that make use of URLs in an effort to thwart existing defenses. IronPort said its Web Reputation technology tracks over 45 different network parameters to evaluate the reputation of a given web site.
The system evaluates a message's full context by analyzing what the message contains, its construction, the reputation of who sent it, where it is trying to send the receiver, to accurately distinguish friend from foe.
To assure the accuracy of its reputation monitoring, IronPort uses its SenderBase Network, an e-mail and web traffic monitoring network fed by more than 100,000 contributing sources, including ISPs, Fortune 500 and Global 2000 enterprises and sources from every major geography and customer segment.
IronPort's Web Reputation technology is now part of IronPort Anti-Spam and available now for IronPort Anti-Spam customers. No software upgrade is required.
